Google Nik

Have you downloaded the Google Nik filters yet?  The filters will help you do amazing things with your images and they are fully compatible with PaintShop Pro, Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom and Corel AfterShot Pro.

The best part of these filters is that they are a free download from Google.

This is a very impressive collection of filters.  I remember working at a photo show in 2010 and 2011 and NIK was the both next to ours.

Their demos really were amazing and consistently drew large crowds to see the filters in action. Over the course of the show the two guys from NIK sold a lot of copies of the filters - and they weren't cheap by any means (>$100).

Google acquired the collection a couple of years ago and made them available at no cost to the end user - that's you ...!

The Benefits

As stated earlier, this is an amazing set of 'filters' that cover everything from old time photo simulation to advanced sharpening.

In addition, all of the filters include Control Points, also known as U Point technology.  What they do is allow for an adjustment in a specific area that you define - actually the description would probably take many pages so just take a few minutes to watch the following video - it explains the Control Points perfectly ...

Google Nik Categories

Analog FX Pro

The effects in this group of filters are inspired by traditional cameras as they take you back to the vintage age of photo development. Choose from 10 different Tool Combinations to easily apply their effects, or use the Camera Kit to mix and match your favorite analog features.

There are five Main categories of cameras (Classic Wet Plate, Toy Camera, Vintage Camera and a Camera Kit to make your own).  Each Camera has 10-15 sub-categories so there are lots of choices available.

Color Efex Pro

Stack any number of Color Efex Pro’s 55 filters to create a unique look. You can save your favorite combinations, then apply the same look to other images with a single click.

This may be the set you use most often because it's chick full of outstanding filters.

Silver Efex Pro

Advancements in black and white controls help you achieve great results quickly.

Emulate nearly 20 popular film types, add finishing adjustments like toners and borders, and tune your image to produce fabulous black-and-white results.

This is my personal favourite and this is the one I couldn't wait to my hands on ...

You can choose exactly where enhancements are applied without using complicated selections or layer masks. The changes you make automatically and naturally blend with your image, producing spectacular results.

HDR Efex Pro

Bring back lost highlights, open up shadows, and adjust tonality to achieve the perfectly natural and balanced image you’ve envisioned.

Sharpener Pro

Enhance subtle details and textures to create images in a distinctive style. The Structure, Local Contrast, and Focus tools give you a variety of creative sharpening options.

Dfine lets you adjust contrast and reduce color noise separately, making it easy to control the type and amount of noise reduction applied to your photo.

This amazing collection can be added to your favourite digital editing program quite easily.  In PaintShop Pro they are added to the Effects Menu so all of them are instantly available.

Installing the collection (or any plug-in for that matter) is very easy with PaintShop Pro.

File > Preferences > File Locations will bring up this dialogue ...

To add the filters to PaintShop Pro click the Add button and navigate to the location where you downloaded the Google Nik collection.

Double click the collection and the plug-ins will be added to the Effects menu of PaintShop Pro - very quick and very easy!

The collection can also be added to Photoshop, Lightroom and Corel's AfterShot Pro.

Now that you've seen a bit of information about these filters it's time to download your free copy  from Google
