Tablet Brush Settings

The tablet brush settings is one thing that really sets a tablet (Intuos 3 or Bamboo) apart from a mouse

When you are using the tools in Photoshop with a tablet you can decide how the tools will react to varying pressure on the pen - that's impossible with a mouse.

What the tablet brush setting do is move things like Opacity and Brush size from the top of your screen right into your hand and that is so much more intuitive.

Photoshop has a lot of pressure sensitive tools, including

  • Bush
  • Clone Tool
  • Dodge Tool
  • Burn Tool
  • History Brush
  • Pattern Stamp
  • Eraser
  • Smudge Tool
  • Blur Tool
  • Smudge Tool
  • Magnetic Lasso
  • Pencil
  • Art History Brush
The Dynamics

The dynamics you can change with pen pressure include

  • Size
  • Opacity
  • Scattering
  • Color

and they can be changed either alone or together.

The best way to learn how to use this fabulous feature of Photoshop and your tablet is to watch the video and then try it for yourself.

You will be amazed!

The ability to make tablet brush setting changes is the main reason I started this site.  I was amazed to discover so many tablet users had no idea they could change the brush dynamics with pressure.
