Ok...I ve been at this for hours and I give up...
I`ve seen tutorials, read your site , printed the Layers pages and still can t figure out how you get more than one layer into the layers palette using paintshop pro X 4 ... i can see the background image , but i can t see the raster image ...and if i see the raster image ...then i can t see the background image ...?? sorry but i give up. Why not make a tutorial that just assumes that you are starting from scratch...without the small talk !!
If i download the tutorial then i can pause and go forward at my leisure so a tw0/five minute tutorial should be able to show me the basics..
PLEASE..!!
thanks

Raster Layers
by: Richard

Are you adding one image on top of another or are you simply adding a new layer onto the Background?

If you're adding one image on top of another then what Terry said in his comment is the way to go.

If you are adding a new, blank layer then there should be no problem seeing the Background layer.

help on layers for newbie
by: terry of the tutorials

Worry not!

We were all newbies once.

Think of layers as being sheets of stacked OHP film. The top film is the one you see in the workspace of your monitor. The blend mode is the way in which the top layer influences the one below.

You can change the amount of influence in the opacity %. As a start choose an image that is "thin" and pale. Right-click the thumbnail in the layers palette and choose DUPLICATE. Choose HARDLIGHT then try SOFTLIGHT in the blend mode (again in the layers palette).

Compare the results and try other blend modes on other images both thick and thin. There you go - your first 30 second layers tutorial.
