For the artistically challenged individual there are some new features that will enable them to create images they never thought possible. That includes me, unfortunately.

I always enjoyed messing about with this program but I never accomplished much. My efforts included going through a brush variant with different colors and completely filling a blank page. Nothing artistic there but I was fascinated by the brush strokes and silently wished I could actually do something.

Divine Proportion

Throughout the ages the Divine Proportion can be found in the most admired art, beautiful architecture and the evaluation of physical beauty to name a few.

Divine Proportion

For years, it has been generally accepted that we appreciate paintings and designs that allow our eyes to flow around an image to take in its visual elements. By applying the principles of Divine Proportion, virtually anyone can compose a relatively balanced painting. With Corel Painter X, the new Divine Proportion tool allows you to start with optical guide lines that have been used for centuries to achieve some of the world's most famous painted compositions.

Some of the greatest works of art including the Mona Lisa conform to the Divine Proportion and with Painter X your artwork can conform to the Divine Proportion as well.

The Divine Proportion is a fascinating subject and was included in Dan Brown's best selling novel The DaVinci Code. If you have the book you can review the information in Chapter 20.

Divine Proportion Small The Divine Proportion palette provides for multiple adjustments including re-sizing, orientation, line color and default settings for landscape or portrait. You simply enable the Divine Proportion on a blank canvas and sketch in your basic drawing.

Rule of Thirds

Photography 101 teaches the Rule of Thirds. This is a principle of composition that has been used for centuries by artists and more recently photographers.

The rule is applied by dividing your photograph into nine sections with two vertical lines and two horizontal lines. The most important part of a photograph should be located at one of the four intersections of the lines or the horizon should be aligned with one of the horizontal lines.

Rule Of Thirds Grid Placing your center of interest on one of the intersections or the horizon on one of the horizontal lines is very pleasing to the eye.

In Painter X it is possible to superimpose the rule of thirds grid lines over a photograph, resize the grid, move it around, change the color of the lines and change the angle.

When satisfied a simple crop will produce a great photograph that conforms the the rule of thirds!

It really is a useful tool - to see it in action click on the Grid or The Rule Of Thirds.
